Warsaw, NY: The Wyoming County Dairy Institute (WCDI) in collaboration with the North West New York Dairy, Livestock and Field Crops Team (NWNY Team) and Genex Cooperative, Inc. will offer a two day program on the artificial insemination of cattle. The course will cover such topics as; anatomy and physiology of the cows reproductive tract, hormonal regulation of estrus, follicle and CL formation, estrous synchronization protocols, introduction to AI techniques, heat detection, semen handling and thawing techniques, care and maintenance of the nitrogen tank, loading the insemination gun and cow insemination.
In addition to the science based lectures, each afternoon will be conducted on farm to give necessary exposure to cow handling methods, AI techniques and use of an insemination gun. Cost of the course includes lunch, manuals. Experienced trainers will guide participants through AI techniques using reproductive tracts before the in-cow practice sessions.
