The moral of the story? Give your cover crop all the time you can spare in your rotation before plowing it under. As the weather warms in the spring, you will see it grow in leaps and bounds, just about surpassing its previous nine months of growth. An interseeded cover crop is held back during the summer it was seeded by the shade of the corn crop, so it really can only take off in the spring, when the heat units really begin to pile up.
